Lux Hipstamatic Show Press Release
Artist Jason Hill will premiere an exhibition of more than 100 Hipstamatic iphone photos at LUX coffee bar, August 1st - 31st, 2010.
"This City is Cool" is the title of Jason Hill's all-new body of work– an ironic title considering it will be on display during the hottest month in the hottest city in America! Luckily it's at the coolest spot in town, LUX coffee bar, located at 4404 N Central Avenue in Phoenix. Known for it's design savvy interior and hip clientele as well as it's delicious coffee and pastries, LUX is a perfect locale for an exhibition of photos taken with an iphone application named "Hipstamatic".
All photos were taken in and around Phoenix from May-June 2010 and have a distinctly vintage analog feel, despite being shot entirely with an iphone.
"I love the Hipstamatic" says Jason. "You can get the varied results of a Holga film camera, the desaturated retro look of a Polaroid and the spontaneity of having a camera in your pocket!"
The results are stylish and surreal. Otherworldly landscapes shot out of the window of an airplane, abandoned domes in the desert, portraits of artistic personalities and insightful snapshots of the urban environment and Valley architecture. Some of the photos pop with over saturated color complete with analog-style light leaks, others appear in high contrast black & white with moody vignettes. With work that achieves a timeless quality using the latest in instant image capture technology, Jason's exhibition defines "cool" in the hottest city in the U.S.
Selected prints from the show will be available for purchase online at www.hipstamat.etsy.com

New Times cover story

> In Jason Hill's Phoenix, the sun never sets. His paintings of the city – a vibrant Valley National Bank framed by a glowing sky; a dazzling Financial Center with a jet jauntily speeding past - are thousand-watt, high-color beacons that send the same, simple, not-so-subliminal message: Phoenix is cool. < Read more of Robrt Pela's article here.
